The Bristol School of Shiatsu
The Bristol School Of Shiatsu was established in 1984 by Keith Phillips, one of the early pioneers of Shiatsu in Great Britain. The school was one of the first of its kind in the country to offer in-depth professional Shiatsu training.
The aim of the School is to give students a thorough training in Shiatsu and to promote the highest standard of practice. To achieve this, we offer a flexible and comprehensive programme of tuition promoting a sound understanding of Traditional Oriental Medicine and contemporary Shiatsu practice.
Our approach to teaching Shiatsu
Our teaching emphasises an intuitive approach to Shiatsu within a framework of traditional oriental medical theory. We see Shiatsu as both an art and a science, encouraging the student’s self-development and creativity, based on a firm foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge.
A major focus of the School is on the development of the intuitive awareness and sensitivity of the students, encouraging the listening in depth to another’s body and being. The student learns to diagnose and respond with appropriate touch for the individuals needs, giving a Shiatsu treatment which is unique and personally tailored to bring about a deep level of healing.

Previous Shiatsu students had this to say as they ended their training:
“The Bristol School of Shiatsu has given me the opportunity to follow a career path and become a professional therapist, within a respectable and valued system of healing”
“The level and diversity of teaching has been excellent.”
“The course created the perfect environment for the bud to open and the flower to blossom. Do I recognise this joyful being who has been hidden for so long?”
The removal of my many masks has allowed me to soften into authenticity with those around me, whilst honouring my true self. ”
“The teachers were open and friendly and highly professional.”
“I know I can now go on and help people in the same beautiful way that Shiatsu has helped me.”
